ÁLÀ, translated from Yoruba to mean Dreams, is an ode to Black heritage through film, fashion, music and photography. Young curators from the London College of Communication present five short films centered around the voices and experiences of Black women that will take you on an enlightening journey, showcasing the vibrant spirit of Black culture.

This programme aims to challenge the conventional narratives of Black experiences, emphasizing a shift away from trauma-centric storytelling. Instead, our curated selection of works is a testament to the strength, creativity, and positivity that emanates from the Black experience. "Àlá: Black Joy" is more than an event; it's a movement towards change, understanding, and unity.

We encourage each of our audience to find and celebrate the joy within yourselves and others. This is an opportunity for introspection and a chance to foster a deeper connection with the essence of Black culture. Let's explore the beauty and resilience of Black heritage together and discover the true meaning of Black Joy.

The screening will be followed by a DJ set in the ICA Bar.

Curated by Dami Ojobaro, Zakiya Amlak, Macready Massey and Shiyuan Chen from the London College of Communication
