POGGI & VINEL: Faith in Incoherence

This event has ended.

18:30 Sun 12 Jan 2020

Regent Street Cinema

With their first feature Jessica Forever released in 2019, LSFF looks back at the short film work of directing duo Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel.

Part of a 21st century rebirth of French Cinema, their works are epitomised by Bertrand Mandico’s Incoherence Manifesto (‘to be incoherent means to have faith in cinema; it means having a romantic approach, unformatted, free, disturbed and dreamlike, cinegenic…’) Holding a mirror up to the teenage experience in contemporary rural France, these films contrast parochial boredom with transgressive and confrontational narratives and surrealist aesthetics.

Poggi & Vinel will join us in Q&A with host Seán McGovern. Programmed by Philip Ilson. 86’

  • TANT QU'IL NOUS RESTE DES FUSILS À POMPE (AS LONG AS SHOTGUNS REMAIN)

Caroline Poggi / Jonathan Vinel 30 mins (FR, 2014)

It's damned hot. Streets are oddly empty. Palms are suffering and shot guns crying. Joshua wants to die but doesn't want to leave his brother Mael alone. Meanwhile he meets with a gang: the Icebergs.
  • GRAND BLANC - TENDRESSE

Caroline Poggi / Jonathan Vinel 5 mins (FR, 2016)

A cold and almost insubstantial world, enveloped in a soft atmosphere. Poggi and Vinel transform physical and extreme pulsions into hypnotic and misty images, spreading a sense of lightness.
  • OUR LEGACY

Caroline Poggi / Jonathan Vinel 25 mins (FR, 2016)

Lucas goes out with Anaïs. It's the first time she comes to his home. His father, Pierre Woodman, went on holidays.
  • AFTER SCHOOL KNIFE FIGHT

Caroline Poggi / Jonathan Vinel 21 mins (FR, 2017)

Laëtitia, Roca, Nico and Naël are in a band. As per usual, they meet late afternoon before rehearsal in a vacant lot. The group will soon no longer exist; they will be forced to disband because Laetitia is moving away to study. This is the story of four young adults who do not want to say good-bye.
  • AAMOUROCEAN - I FIND LOVE

Caroline Poggi / Jonathan Vinel 6 mins (FR, 2017)
