HISTORY OF HYPERDUB (WITH COOLY G AND OKZHARP LIVE)
19:00 Fri 18 Jan 2019
From zine to record label, across its 14 years’ existence Hyperdub has grown from one of the early documenters of UK dubstep, pioneered by its own founder Kode9, to one of the UK’s most celebrated underground electronic labels, famously home to its first signee South London’s Burial and an ever-increasingly eclectic roster.
Hyperdub has grown to global cult status whilst maintaining a rare consistency in its output, with a succinct, minimalist visual identity dipping into the darker and more dystopian for its aesthetic cues. We explore the homegrown, often DIY visuals which have accompanied Hyperdub releases over the years, from past to present. Expect music videos, docs and plenty of footwork.
Followed with live DJ sets from Cooly G and Okzharp.
“One of the pioneers of the sultry, playful genre of U.K. funky” (Fader), Cooly G has been a staple fixture on the Hyperdub roster since 2009’s Narst / Love Dub EP. Okzharp is the solo project of DJ-producer Gerv Gordon who produces “cosmic, politicised r’n’b” (Mixmag) with South African performance artist Manthe Ribane.
