Mothers don’t always see eye to eye with their offspring, but the bond is so strong it’s tough to break. Watch out for Maxine Peake looking after her anorexic daughter in The Heart Fails Without Warning written by Hilary Mantel, and Primeval’s Lucy Brown as a young mother protecting her family from bullies in This Is Vanity.
