2012 Awards

LSFF and our nine Awards Partners are proud to honour achievement in a number of categories at the 9th London Short Film Festival. 

Join us at the ICA for this year’s Closing Night Awards Ceremony, an altogether glitzier affair than in previous years, held in the ICA Theatre. The evening will consist of a pre- and post-drinks reception in the ICA bar, courtesy of Kirin Ichiban, followed by a Ceremony and Screening event in which we will announce the winners of LSFF’s nine coveted Awards. 

The night will also include a special screening of the Shooting People Film of the Month December winner, as judged by Andrea Arnold (WUTHERING HEIGHTS, FISH TANK). 

The Awards being presented by the 9th London Short Film Festival in January 2012 will be: 

The British Council Award for Best New Short

The winning filmmaker will receive £500 in cash, courtesy of the British Council. 


The Animate Projects Award for Best Experimental Short

This award will be announced during the Leftfield & Luscious programme on Saturday 8 January at 14:00 at the ICA. 

The winning filmmaker will receive £150 in cash, courtesy of Animate Projects. 


The Dirty Looks Award for Best Music Short. 

This Award will be announced during the Music & Video programme on Thursday 12 January at 18:00 at the Roxy Bar & Screen.

The winning filmmaker will receive a full package picture grade and mastering for a short film, including 1-day Baselight grade, DigiBeta and DCP (Digital Cinema) version and data files, courtesy of Dirty Looks. 


The Little White Lies Award for Best Lo-Budget Short

This Award will be announced during the Lo-Budget Mayhem programme on Sunday 6 January at 21:00 at the ICA.

The winning filmmaker will receive a Little White Lies gift bundle, including a full year’s subscription to the magazine, courtesy of Little White Lies. 


The LoCo Award for Best Comedy Short

The winning film will screen as LoCo’s Discovery Short, highlighting the best new talent at the London Comedy Film Festival at the BFI Southbank in January 2012.The winning filmmaker will also receive a free place on their LoCollege course ‘Kickstart Your Comedy Career’, worth £100. 


The Student Film Festival London Award for Best Student Short

The winning filmmaker will receive a trip to China (flights and accommodation paid) to screen at the British Council UK Now Showcase in 2012, courtesy of the Student Film Festival London. 


The Popcorn Horror Award for Best Horror Short

The winning filmmaker will receive £300 in cash, plus a year’s subscription to the Popcorn Horror mobile phone app and two-weeks’ free promotion on their website, including having the film posted as “video of the week”, courtesy of Popcorn Horror. 


The Sheffield Doc/Fest Award for Best Short Documentary

The winning filmmakers will receive a Delegate Pass for Doc/Fest 2012, courtesy of Doc/Fest. 


The Underwire Award for Best Female Character. 

The winning film is guaranteed a screening at Underwire Festival in 2012, and the winning filmmaker will be invited to sit on the jury for the Underwire Best Director Award. Thanks to Underwire.


All winning filmmakers will additionally receive a brand new Lomokino camera - Lomography's innovative new 35mm movie camera - courtesy of Lomography.
