In collaboration with the London Short Film Festival, the Museum of London is working to develop a documentary film festival programme, which will cover issue-based themes relevant to London’s past, present and future, giving a voice to stories and topics that are too often hidden.
One such documentary is AKA, inspired by Yinka Shonibare and developed in Partnership with the South London Gallery and Refugee Youth; Quiet Voice (under the direction of Stephen Rudder). The film focuses on a group of teenage refugees considering the question of their identity as young people and Londoners. Using audio, projection and a kaleidoscope of snapshots from their lives, audiences will be exposed to rarely-heard views on the complexity and emotion surrounding these teenagers’ identity.
The future plan is to develop an annual platform for London Urban Communities Documentary Films in collaboration with the London Short Film Festival. Including workshops and guest speakers, this collaboration will work to showcase quality short documentary films, produced by some of the country's finest seasoned and new urban filmmakers.
